Last updated July 07, 2026

This Privacy Policy for Volta Instruments LLC (doing business as Volta) ("we," "us," or "our") explains our privacy practices for our applications and services ("Services"). This Privacy Policy applies when you:

What personal information do we process? Our applications are designed to process as little personal information as possible. In the case of Pulsar, no personal information is transmitted to or processed by Volta Instruments LLC. Any data created within the app — such as audio recordings made through the Imprint feature — is stored only on your device and is never accessible to us.

Do we process any sensitive personal information? We do not process sensitive personal information.

Do we collect any information from third parties? We do not collect any information from third parties.

In what situations and with which parties do we share personal information? We do not share personal information with third parties for commercial purposes. We do not sell personal information.

How do we keep your information safe? Pulsar is designed so that your personal information never leaves your device in connection with Volta Instruments LLC. The primary security of your data is provided by iOS's built-in device security — including encryption, app sandboxing, and Face ID or passcode protection.

What are your rights? Depending on where you are located, applicable privacy law may give you rights regarding your personal information. Since Volta Instruments LLC holds no personal data about you, our response to any such request will confirm this and provide written confirmation upon request.

How do you exercise your rights? Contact us at studio@byvolta.app. We will respond to all requests within 30 days regardless of your jurisdiction.

The following terms apply to all applications published by Volta Instruments LLC. App-specific privacy terms are listed separately below and apply only to users of the designated application.

1. Our Privacy Commitment

We do not build profiles about our users. We do not sell or share personal information with third parties for commercial gain. Each application's specific data practices are described in the app-specific sections below.

2. What Information Do We Collect?

Personal information you disclose to us

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you contact us with questions or support requests. See Section 3 for details on what we receive when you contact us.

Sensitive Information. We do not process sensitive information.

Payment Data. Payment processing for our applications is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Volta Instruments LLC never receives, handles, or has access to your payment information, including credit card numbers, billing addresses, or any other financial data. Payment data is collected directly by Apple and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy at apple.com/legal/privacy.

Application Data. Our applications may request access to certain features of your mobile device, including the microphone and local storage, to deliver core functionality. This information is used solely on your device to deliver the application's functionality. It is not transmitted to Volta Instruments LLC. Specific details for each application are described in the app-specific sections below. If you wish to change our access or permissions, you may do so in your device's settings.

We use this information solely to respond to your request. We do not share it with third parties. We retain correspondence for no longer than 12 months after your inquiry is resolved, unless a longer retention period is required by applicable law.

Please be aware that standard email transmission is not encrypted end-to-end. We recommend avoiding sending sensitive personal information such as financial details or government identification numbers by email.

4. How Do We Process Your Information?

Volta Instruments LLC applications process information locally on your device to deliver core functionality. No personal information is transmitted to or processed by Volta Instruments LLC from users of our applications.

The sole exception is correspondence: if you contact us at studio@byvolta.app, we process the personal information you provide solely to respond to your inquiry, as described in Section 3.

Purchase verification through Apple's StoreKit framework occurs entirely within Apple's infrastructure on your device and does not involve any transmission of personal information to Volta Instruments LLC.

5. What Legal Bases Do We Rely On to Process Your Personal Information?

In Short: We process essentially no personal data from users of our applications. The only personal information we process is correspondence sent to us directly.

If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.

The GDPR and UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on to process your personal information.

Volta Instruments LLC does not process personal data from users of its applications in any manner that requires a legal basis under GDPR. Our applications operate entirely on your device, and no personal data is transmitted to us.

The sole exception is email correspondence to studio@byvolta.app, which we process under Legitimate Interests — specifically, our legitimate interest in responding to your inquiries. This processing is limited to the content of your correspondence, used only to respond, and retained for no more than 12 months.

We may also process information under Legal Obligations where required to comply with applicable law.

Withdrawing your consent: If we ever rely on your consent to process personal information, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at studio@byvolta.app.

If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you.

We process correspondence you send us under implied consent — you contact us, and we use the information to respond. You may withdraw this consent by requesting that we delete your correspondence at studio@byvolta.app.

6. When and With Whom Do We Share Your Personal Information?

In Short: We do not share personal information with third parties for commercial purposes.

We may share or disclose information only in the following limited circumstances:

We have not sold or shared any personal information to third parties for a business or commercial purpose. We will not sell personal information in the future.

7. International Data Transfers

Volta Instruments LLC does not transfer personal data to any third country or international organization. Our applications process data locally on your device. Any correspondence you send to studio@byvolta.app is received and processed by us in the United States.

If you are located in the EU, UK, or another jurisdiction with data transfer restrictions, please be aware that by contacting us directly, your correspondence will be processed in the United States. We handle all correspondence with appropriate confidentiality and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

8. How Long Do We Keep Your Information?

Volta Instruments LLC does not retain personal information from users of its applications. Our applications operate entirely on your device. The only data created by our applications — such as the Imprint recording in Pulsar — is stored on your device and is subject to your control as described in the app-specific sections below. Volta Instruments LLC has no data to retain or delete.

If you contact us at studio@byvolta.app, we will retain your correspondence for no longer than 12 months after your inquiry is resolved, unless a longer retention period is required by applicable law.

9. How Do We Keep Your Information Safe?

Our applications are designed so that your personal information never leaves your device in connection with Volta Instruments LLC. The primary security of your data is provided by iOS's built-in device security — including device encryption, app sandboxing, and Face ID or passcode protection.

We encourage you to maintain a secure device passcode and to keep your iOS software up to date. Volta Instruments LLC does not transmit your personal information and therefore cannot be the source of a data breach involving your application data.

For email correspondence to studio@byvolta.app, please be aware that standard email is not encrypted end-to-end. We recommend avoiding sending sensitive personal information by email.

10. Do We Collect Information From Minors?

In Short: We do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18 years of age.

We do not knowingly collect, solicit data from, or market to children under 18 years of age, nor do we knowingly sell such personal information. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age.

Since Volta Instruments LLC does not collect personal information from any user, there is no personal data to delete in the event that a minor uses our applications. If we become aware that a minor has used our Services, we will investigate and take steps to prevent continued use. If you become aware of any such situation, please contact us at studio@byvolta.app.

11. Automated Decision-Making

Volta Instruments LLC does not use automated decision-making or profiling based on personal information in connection with any of its applications. No decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects are made about you by automated means.

12. What Are Your Privacy Rights?

In Short: Depending on your location, you have rights that allow you greater access to and control over your personal information.

In some regions (like the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Canada), you have certain rights under applicable data protection laws. These may include the right (i) to request access and obtain a copy of your personal information, (ii) to request rectification or erasure; (iii) to restrict the processing of your personal information; (iv) if applicable, to data portability; and (v) not to be subject to automated decision-making.

Since Volta Instruments LLC holds no personal data about you from your use of our applications, our response to any such request will confirm this. We will provide written confirmation that we hold no personal data about you, upon request. See Section 18 for details on how to exercise your privacy rights.

You can make a request by contacting us at studio@byvolta.app.

If you are located in the EEA or UK and you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you also have the right to complain to your Member State data protection authority or UK data protection authority.

If you are located in Switzerland, you may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

13. Controls for Do-Not-Track Features

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track ("DNT") feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to be tracked.

California law requires us to disclose how we respond to Do-Not-Track signals. We do not respond to DNT signals because we do not engage in the tracking behaviors such signals are designed to prevent. Our applications do not track users across apps, websites, or services. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you in a revised version of this Privacy Policy.

14. Do United States Residents Have Specific Privacy Rights?

In Short: If you are a resident of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, or Virginia, you may have specific privacy rights.

15. Do Other Regions Have Specific Privacy Rights?

In Short: You may have additional rights based on the country you reside in.

Australia and New Zealand

We operate in compliance with Australia's Privacy Act 1988 and New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020. Since Volta Instruments LLC does not collect personal information from users of its applications, the primary applicable obligation is transparency — which this Privacy Policy fulfills.

If you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you have the right to submit a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner or the Office of New Zealand Privacy Commissioner.

Republic of South Africa

16. Do We Make Updates to This Policy?

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

For material changes — meaning changes that affect your rights, your obligations, or how we handle your data in connection with applications you currently use — we will notify you within the application prior to or at the time the changes take effect. You will be asked to review and accept material changes before continuing to use the affected application.

For non-material changes — including the addition of privacy terms governing new Volta Instruments applications that do not affect your existing use of applications you already use — we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document without prior notification.

Continued use of any Volta Instruments application after accepting updated terms constitutes your agreement to those terms.

17. How Can You Contact Us About This Policy?

18. How Can You Exercise Your Privacy Rights?

Under applicable privacy laws including the GDPR, CCPA, and similar regulations, you have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, and portability of your personal data. Volta Instruments LLC welcomes these requests and will respond to all of them within 30 days, regardless of your jurisdiction or whether applicable law requires it. This is our policy because it is the right thing to do.

Our response to any privacy request will confirm the following: Volta Instruments LLC holds no personal data about you from your use of our applications. There is nothing to access, correct, delete, or export on our end.

We recognize that this may be an unusual response. It is also an honest one.

If you would like written confirmation that Volta Instruments LLC holds no personal data about you — for your own records, for legal purposes, or for any other reason — we will provide it upon request.

For data held by Apple in connection with your App Store purchases, iCloud account, or Apple ID, please contact Apple directly at privacy.apple.com.

Pulsar — application specific privacy terms

The following privacy terms apply exclusively to users of Pulsar. If you do not use Pulsar, these terms do not apply to you.

19. Our Privacy Philosophy

Pulsar collects nothing. Your mind is yours.

Pulsar is designed to work entirely on your device, without transmitting information about you, your sessions, or your behavior to Volta Instruments LLC or any third party. We do not collect your personal information. We do not analyze your usage. We do not build profiles about you. We do not sell, share, or monetize data about you in any form.

This is not a limitation of our technology. It is a deliberate design decision that reflects our belief that the most personal tool you use should also be the most private.

20. What We Do Not Collect

To be explicit about our data practices, Volta Instruments LLC does not collect, store, transmit, or have access to any of the following in connection with Pulsar:

Pulsar has no connection to any server infrastructure operated by Volta Instruments LLC. All functionality operates entirely on your device.

21. The Imprint Recorder

Pulsar includes a personal audio recording feature called Imprint. Imprint allows you to record your own voice, which plays back during your sessions. The following is a complete and specific account of how Imprint recordings are handled:

Your Imprint recording is created and stored exclusively in Pulsar's local Documents directory on your device. It is never transmitted to Volta Instruments LLC or any third party. Volta Instruments LLC cannot access, hear, retrieve, or delete your Imprint recording. It is not accessible to us under any circumstances.

Each new Imprint recording permanently overwrites the previous one. Only one Imprint recording exists on your device at any time.

Your Imprint recording is deleted from your device when you uninstall Pulsar, or when you clear it within the app.

Pulsar's Imprint recording is explicitly excluded from both iCloud backups and local device backups (via Finder or iTunes) at the system level through iOS's backup exclusion mechanism. It does not leave your device through any mechanism.

22. Device Hardware Access

Pulsar requests access to the following device hardware features:

Microphone — used exclusively for Imprint recording. Audio captured through the microphone is stored locally on your device as described in the Imprint Recorder section above. No audio is transmitted off your device by Pulsar under any circumstances. Pulsar will request your permission before accessing the microphone for the first time. You can grant or revoke microphone access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Pulsar. If you deny microphone access, the Imprint recording feature will be unavailable, but all other Pulsar functionality will operate normally.

Storage — used to save your Imprint recording to Pulsar's local Documents directory on your device. No data is written to any location outside your device by Pulsar.

Pulsar also uses the following hardware features without requiring separate permission requests:

LED Flashlight — used during Projection sessions to produce synchronized light stimulation at your selected frequency. Pulsar accesses the LED flashlight through iOS's AVCaptureDevice framework. This does not activate your camera, capture any images or video, or require camera permissions. Only the flashlight function is used. No data is collected or transmitted in connection with flashlight use.

Haptic Engine — used during Kinetics sessions to produce synchronized vibration at your selected frequency. No data is collected or transmitted in connection with haptic use.

Audio Playback — Pulsar plays binaural beats, monaural beats, and ambient atmosphere audio — including recordings such as ocean waves, rainfall, forest sounds, and similar — through your device speakers or any connected audio output including Bluetooth headphones and speakers. Audio routing is managed by iOS's AVAudioSession framework. Pulsar does not request direct Bluetooth access, does not identify or track connected audio devices, and does not record, capture, or transmit any audio output.

Using your device's hardware is not the same as collecting data. Pulsar uses these features to deliver its core functionality. It does not record, analyze, or transmit any information derived from their use.

23. Apple Services

Pulsar interacts with the following Apple services:

Apple App Store and StoreKit — all purchases and payment processing for Pulsar are handled exclusively by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit framework. Volta Instruments LLC does not receive, store, or have access to your payment information, credit card details, billing address, or any personal information associated with your purchase.

Purchase Verification — Pulsar uses Apple's StoreKit framework to verify that a valid purchase has been made. StoreKit operates entirely within Apple's infrastructure and returns a cryptographic confirmation to Pulsar that a purchase exists. Volta Instruments LLC does not receive your Apple ID, name, email address, or any personally identifying information through this process. We receive only a confirmation that a valid purchase has been completed.

Purchase Restoration — Pulsar supports purchase restoration through StoreKit, allowing you to restore your purchase on a new device or after reinstalling the app. This process is handled entirely by Apple. Volta Instruments LLC does not store your purchase history and does not participate in the restoration process beyond presenting the option within the app.

All payment-related and purchase-related data practices are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy at apple.com/legal/privacy. Volta Instruments LLC is not responsible for Apple's data collection or privacy practices. We encourage you to review Apple's Privacy Policy to understand how Apple handles your information in connection with App Store purchases.

24. No Third-Party SDKs or Analytics Tools

Pulsar does not integrate any third-party analytics services, advertising networks, crash reporting services that transmit data off-device, or behavioral tracking frameworks. Tools commonly found in other applications — including but not limited to Firebase, Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Crashlytics, Sentry, Adjust, AppsFlyer, Branch, and similar services — are not present in Pulsar.

The only third-party audio framework integrated into Pulsar is AudioKit, an open-source audio processing library. Based on AudioKit's published privacy manifest and our review of its implementation in Pulsar, AudioKit does not collect, store, or transmit personal data in connection with Pulsar's use of the library.

All other frameworks used by Pulsar are Apple's own native iOS frameworks, whose data practices are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

This statement reflects the composition of Pulsar as of the version date of this Privacy Policy. If Pulsar is updated in a way that changes the SDK composition and affects data practices, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.

If you wish to verify this independently, you may request that we share Pulsar's privacy manifest, which enumerates all frameworks and their declared data practices. Contact us at studio@byvolta.app.

25. Your Control Over Your Data

Since Volta Instruments LLC holds no personal data about you, the following is a complete and exhaustive list of data control actions available to you:

Imprint Recording — You can delete your Imprint recording at any time by recording a new one, which permanently overwrites it, or by clearing it within the app, which deletes the file from your device immediately. You can also delete it by uninstalling Pulsar. No copy of your Imprint recording exists anywhere other than your device.

Purchase Records — Records of your Pulsar purchase are maintained by Apple, not by Volta Instruments LLC. To manage your purchase history, visit your Apple ID account at appleid.apple.com or contact Apple Support.

There is no account to delete. There is no profile to update. There is no data to export. Volta Instruments LLC holds none of your personal information.

26. Future Features

Volta Instruments LLC is committed to maintaining Pulsar's privacy-first architecture in any future updates. If a future version of Pulsar introduces features that involve data leaving your device — such as optional cloud synchronization of session preferences — the following will always be true:

Any such features will be strictly optional. Users who do not enable them will experience no change to Pulsar's current privacy profile.

Any such features that involve data transmission will be clearly disclosed in an updated Privacy Policy, and you will be asked to review and accept the updated terms before accessing those features.

Any cloud storage of your data will be handled through Apple's iCloud infrastructure, not through Volta Instruments LLC's own servers. Volta Instruments LLC will not access, store, or process your data on its own servers in any future version of Pulsar.

We will never introduce advertising, analytics, behavioral tracking, or data monetization into Pulsar. These are not features we are considering. They are incompatible with what Pulsar is. In the event that Volta Instruments LLC is acquired by or merged with another company, any successor entity will be bound by these commitments as a condition of the transfer.

These commitments apply specifically to Pulsar. Privacy practices for other Volta Instruments applications are described in the app-specific sections of this Privacy Policy and in those applications' respective Terms of Use.

27. Privacy Requests for Pulsar Users

The general privacy request procedures described in Section 18 apply to Pulsar. Since Volta Instruments LLC holds no personal data about Pulsar users, our response to any request will confirm this.

To be specific: Pulsar creates no account, generates no usage profile, transmits no information to us, and leaves no trace in our systems. If you submit a data access, correction, deletion, or portability request in connection with your use of Pulsar, our response will confirm that there is nothing to access, correct, delete, or export — and we will provide this confirmation in writing upon request.

For data held by Apple in connection with your App Store purchase or Apple ID, please contact Apple directly at privacy.apple.com.

28. Children and Minors

Pulsar is intended for users who are at least 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. Since Volta Instruments LLC does not collect personal information from any user regardless of age, we have no mechanism by which a minor's information could be collected, stored, or processed by us.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has used Pulsar, please be aware that no personal information about your child has been collected or retained by Volta Instruments LLC. Pulsar creates no account, no profile, and no record of any kind that would be associated with your child. If you have concerns about your child's use of Pulsar, please review the photosensitivity and safe use disclosures in our Terms of Use.

If you are a parent or guardian with specific concerns or would like written confirmation that no data about your child has been collected, please contact us at studio@byvolta.app. We will respond within 30 days.
